Humboldt, IA – Local business are going to be light up the community this Christmas season with a light display at Sheldon Park.
Shine on at Sheldon is a drive-thru light display event that will be displayed at the Upper Sheldon Park camper area. The event is being organized by Voltage Ink. Owner Cory Larson talks about Shine on at Sheldon with KHBT.
Larson says that that the event is open to the public for those who want to drive thru and those who want to set up a display. Right now the plan is to use every other campsite at the park but if a lot of people get involved they will move to use ever site.
“We just want to do something for the community for the holidays” Larson says. This is especially important to him because other local events such as Christmas Land have already announced they will not open this year. “We want to give something so the community has something to go do during this COVID crisis”
Larson says there is large value in events like these during trying times to keep up the community’s spirits. “I think it’s very important for the simple fact that people’s moods get down with all the COVID and everything, stuff getting shutdown again.” The event organizer says his personal belief is that Christmas displays have the ability to brighten up a day. “Gives you hope and stuff like that for the holidays and for what’s to come in the future.”
The price of admission for Shine on at Sheldon is five dollars worth of non-perishable food for the Humboldt County Food Pantry or a monetary donation. Larson says the decision to take donations instead of charge admission is about her personal values. “I was brought up to give back to the community.”
The goal is to be able to get the food pantry completely restocked. With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing families in the community are still in need of the pantry to be able to help provide during these trying times. Larson says that’s what drove the decision to take donations instead of charging admission to make a profit.
Shine on at Sheldon hosted by Voltage Ink will be going on the first three Fridays and Saturdays of December and on the 23rd through 25th from 7pm to 10 pm. Those interested in participating can contact Cory Larson at 319-830-7557.
