2021 will be a blast

Humboldt, IA – 2020 is finally coming to an end. Those who wish to celebrate the new year are asked to do so responsibly.

With many people altering their in-person plans, that gives room for distanced activities, such as shooting off fireworks. A safe celebration is encouraged, but fireworks are allowed in Humboldt, says City Administrator Travis Goedken.

“Our fireworks ordinance does allow for residents to shoot off fireworks to ring in the new year. On New Year’s Eve, as it turns over to midnight, you can still shoot off fireworks, but not much longer after midnight.”

Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger says to use caution and safety when handling fireworks. He also says ordinances vary town-by-town and to keep that in mind before making any plans.

“It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to get ahold of your local city halls and find out what the ordinance is. I know Bode does not allow any fireworks to be blown off or anything.”

Kruger says even if fireworks are allowed, there is another reason why using them might not be a good idea.

“It’s too cold out there to be shooting fireworks off.”
