Car crosses center line, causes collision

Humboldt, IA – A man is experiencing suspected serious injuries after a car accident Monday evening.

According to a police report from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 5:20 Monday night, Mitchell Skow, 23, of Dakota City, was traveling eastbound on 250th Street in Humboldt; He crossed the center line of traffic and struck a vehicle traveling west. Skow said in the report that he looked down at his phone and the “next thing he knew, he was sitting backwards in the road.”

The car Skow hit was a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Katherine Stewart, 30, of Humboldt. The Equinox came to rest in a south ditch. Both cars were totaled.

Stewart was uninjured in the collision, but Skow had suspected serious or incapacitating injuries and was transported to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by his spouse.
