Humboldt, IA – The downtown area is getting refreshed with the approval of four facade grants by the city.

As the City of Humboldt works to make their downtown more aesthetically pleasing with new sidewalks and removal of canopies they also provided incentive for businesses to update their buildings. The city provided different grant programs including a roof repair, façade and awning specific funding opportunity to the downtown businesses.

Most recently four downtown businesses just got approved for their projects. Humboldt engraving was approved for a max request of $2,500 for a new awning. The Humboldt County Ministerial Association was approved for $5,000 for roof repairs on the new food pantry building at 419 Sumner Avenue.

Uptown Humboldt Mercantile applied for three different parts of the grant including the Building façade, awning specific and rehabilitation portion. El Sol De Mexico applied for the same. City Administrator Travis Goedken told the city council that these two businesses were essentially applying jointly for the max amount but will only get half of what they actually spend.

These are not the only four business to take advantage of the city’s grant program. In total the city has seen about $200,000 in projects involved with the façade of downtown businesses.
