Dakota City, IA – Humboldt County and the Pocahontas County Health Department discussing changes to a 28E agreement.

During the most recent meeting of the county board of supervisors they met with Pocahontas County Public Health Administrator Anne Thompson. Their discussions centered on the agreement between the two counties to share the sanitarian position.

This item made it to Humboldt County’s agenda because Pocahontas adjusted their job description for the sanitarian. What used to be a part time position of 20 hours has been made into a full time position. The previous sanitarian that was hired by Pocahontas County and did work for Humboldt as well has retired. Pocahontas County Health decided to take the opportunity to adjust the position to full time.

As the current 28E agreement is set up the sanitarian is payed for their work done in Humboldt County on a case by case basis not to exceed 20 hours. Supervisor Erik Underberg spoke about the desire to remove the hours cap to better serve the county tax payers.

At this time Pocahontas County Health has not hired their next sanitarian. These discussions were simply to get input from Humboldt County on what they would like to see done for their citizens.
