Dakota City, IA – Two related ordinance changes are being made in Dakota City ahead of the coming spring season.

During the most recent meeting of the City Council for Dakota City they discussed Ordinance No. 292 and 293. The ordinances pertain to portable irrigation meters and an irrigation meter credit.

Ordinance 292 says that portable irrigation meters may be available for residential use to “measure the water use for irrigation of yards, gardens, filling of pools, and other uses for which water does not discharge into the public sewer system.” A $150 payment will be required to the City Clerk for the use of a city supplied meter. $100 will be credited back on the utility bill following the return of the meter before October 31.

Ordinance 293 says that “each customer using a portable irrigation meter supplied by the City shall receive a credit for the gallons that did not enter the sewer system and is accounted for by said meter.” The portable irrigation meter will be read at City Hall after it’s returned or no more than once a month for continued use.

During the meeting the council approved the first reading of both Ordinance 292 and 293. They will hold the seconding reading during their meeting in March and the final reading will be held in April.
