Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School girls basketball uses a big second quarter to surge ahead for second straight conference win.
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, the Wildcats hosted the Hampton-Dumont Bulldogs. It was a 57-37 victory for Humboldt in this North Central Conference match-up.
Hampton-Dumont came out of the gates faster as the road team. The managed to outscore Humboldt in the first period 14-6.
Humboldt came back strong in the second quarter. They scored 23 points as a team and defensively didn’t allow the Bulldogs a single point. Going into the halftime break Humboldt led 29-14.
Both team had a good offensive third quarter. Humboldt scored 19 points to extend their lead but only slightly as Hampton-Dumont had 17. After three it was 48-31.
The final quarter kept the scoring down as Humboldt managed to push their final advantage to 20. Humboldt won 57-37 after outscoring Hampton-Dumont in the final period 9-6.
As a team Humboldt shot 44.7 percent from the field. They were 7-14 from three point range. They had 36 team rebounds, eleven assists and seven steals.
Guard Jayda Hoefer led the Wildcats with 14 points on 5-8 from the field (2-5 from behind the range). Forward Kendal Clark recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Hampton-Dumont’s leading scorer was forward Avery Hanson who had 19 points. Guard Alana Johnson had six.

With the win Humboldt improves their record to 15-4 on the season and 9-3 in the NCC.
Next up for the Wildcats will be the final home game of their regular season against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The game is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12 at 6:15 pm.
