Late struggle cost Humboldt boys’ soccer in loss to Storm Lake

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School boys’ soccer starts strong but fall 5-2 to Storm Lake in Thursday match.

It was a tightly contested first half between the hosting Wildcats and visiting Tornadoes. Christian Ramirez scored his first goal of the season to help Humboldt maintain a 1-1 tie in the first half.

Humboldt started the second half on a very strong note. Ramirez was able to record his second goal of the game. Through the first part of the second half the game would get tied at 2-2.

However, in the last 20 minutes of the game the Wildcats began to fade. Storm Lake was able to score three unanswered goals to win the game. The winning goal was a penalty kick scored by Alejandro Zuniga.

As a team Humboldt took 14 shots, seven of which were on goal. Jacob Heier and Zach Heider are both credited for assists.

Starting Goal Keeper Zach Frideres played all 80 minutes in the net. He made eight saves and gave up the five goals.

With the loss Humboldt boys’ soccer is 1-1 on the season through their first week of play. Their next match is scheduled for Monday, April 12 at home against Webster City. Match time is scheduled for 5 pm.
