Mason’s hat trick leads Humboldt boys’ soccer past Clear Lake

Clear Lake, IA – Humboldt High School boys’ soccer got another big performance from Max Mason in a 6-2 win over Clear Lake.

On Monday, April 26, the Wildcats traveled to Clear Lake to face the Lions. Max Mason would record his second hat trick of the season as Humboldt took care of business on the road.

Humboldt would hold a 2-0 lead at the half time break. Mason would get his first goal in the 21st minutes off an assist from James Gould. The second goal for Mason would come in the 37th minute off a penalty kick.

Four minutes into the second half Clear Lake would make it 2-1 as Travaughn Luyobya would get past the defense for the Lions’ first goal. In the 50th minute Gould would get a goal off a rebound opportunity and ten minutes later Mason finished his hat trick off an unassisted goal.

In the final five minutes with the score 4-1 three more goals would get scored. Clear Lake’s Kinnick Clabough would score the team’s second goal. Humboldt’s Christian Ramirez and Isaiah Kahl would finish the evening with last minute goals.

Humboldt took 30 shots with 15 of them on goal. Max Mason recorded eleven total shots with six of them on goal. He, along with Gould, Jacob Heier and Trevor Beach all are credited with assists.

Zach Frideres played all 80 minutes in the goal for Humboldt. He made eight saves with two goals against.

Clear Lake took eights shots with five on goal. Luyobya took four with three of them on goal. Clabaugh and David DeJesus were both credited with assist.

Hunter Trenary played all 80 minutes in the goal for Clear Lake. He is credited with five saves and six goals against.

Humboldt is now 5-1 this season. Their next match will be on Thursday, April 29, at Mason City. The schools will play JV matches first at 4:45 pm followed by varsity.
