Dodd’s hat trick lead Clear Lake past Humboldt girls’ soccer

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School girls’ soccer is unable to contain Clear Lake’s top scorer in their first meeting of the season.

On Monday, April 26, the Wildcats hosted the Clear Lake Lions and lost 3-0. Clear Lake senior Darby Dodd was a force for the Lions as she scored all three of their goals.

The scoring began early for Dodd as Clear Lake received the opening kick. Dodd took it herself all the way to the front of the net and slipped it inside the left post just 15 seconds into the game.

Dodd’s second goal came in the 29th minute. After getting the ball into Humboldt’s box Clear Lake had multiple opportunities while the Wildcats could not clear it defensively. Eventually, Dodd slipped it past Humboldt Goalie Marie Elizondo. Clear Lake would hold the 2-0 advantage at the half.

The final goal for the Clear Lake senior came half way throughout the second half. It came via a break away opportunity. All three of her goals were unassisted.

As a team Humboldt managed to get off 13 shots, five of which were on goal. Reagan Lee led the efforts with three shots, two on goal. Yuli Orana had three shots with on on goal.

Elizondo made 10 saves for the Wildcats while playing all 80 minutes at goalie.

Clear Lake reports they took eleven shot, all of which were on goal. Dodd had a total of four shots on goal.

Lion’s Goalie Chelsey Holck recorded six saves on the evening while playing all 80 minutes in the net.

Humboldt is now 3-4 on the season. Emily Zaugg was named player of the game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.

The next game for the Wildcats will be on Thursday, April 29, at home against Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. The match will begin at 5 pm.
