Supervisors discuss solution to missing drainage project data

Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Supervisors are again addressing a lack of completed data while approving payment for a drainage project.

During a recent meet of the Board of Supervisors they were presented with a pay estimate from Reutzel Excavating, Inc. for a recently completed project in Drainage District 7 Sub 2. This payment for $45,124.20 is most the cost of the project with only the project retainage left. It did receive unanimous approval.

Discussions around this item were focused on the fact that two GPS coordinates for connection points were missing from the final as-builts. This is a result of them being buried before the coordinates could be recorded and pictures taken.

This is not the first time this has occurred in recent memory for the supervisors. As previously reported they faced frustrations over a project DD 35 Branch C because of similar situations.

The board plans to assure that future project contracts include visible language about withholding a portion of payment if the required coordinates and pictures are omitted from the final as-builts. The number discussed was 10 percent of total the contract.
