Humboldt baseball erupts for 16 runs in win over CGD

Humboldt, IA – On Wednesday, June 2, Humboldt baseball beat Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 16-3 in four innings.

This was the North Central Conference opener for both teams. Humboldt got two big out burst innings to finish the game in run-rule fashion.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows scored first in the top of the first inning. Kept without a run in the first, Humboldt found seven runs in the second inning to take the lead. CGD got two back in the third inning but Humboldt finished the game in the fourth with nine runs.

The Wildcats’ Caden Matson was the winning pitcher. He pitched all five innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs, a walk and hit batter. He struck out nine CGD batters.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows’ Damien Bjorklund was the losing pitcher. He went three-and-two-thirds innings, giving up six hits, 10 earned runs, nine walks and two hit batters. He struck out four.

Humboldt is now 5-1 this season. They open up conference play at 1-0.

The next game for the Wildcats will be Thursday, June 3, at home against Southeast Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following a JV game.
