Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt County Cattlemen will be firing up the grills, bringing in guest speakers and providing an opportunity for young individuals to show their bucket calves.

On Tuesday, June 22, the local cattlemen will be hosting a community grill out event at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.. This is a public event where they hope to bring the community together over some fine beef products and good times.

Vice President of the Humboldt County Cattlemen, Kevin Cordray says they will have food and a few guest speakers at the event. “We’ll be grilling ribeye steak sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs. It’s going to be a fun event,” he says.

The event will take place at the show ring at the fairgrounds where they will gather everyone for the guest speakers. They will be providing cattle industry updates at the local, state and national level. Cordray says that the cattlemen are “really looking forward to getting everybody together” while enjoying some beef during a fun evening.

The evening will end with a pre-fair showing of some of the area 4-H participants. “After that gets wrapped up we’re going to have a bucket calf show,” says the vice president. The rules will follow the state procedures. There will be trophies for the top participants.

“Just doing something fun and doing something this year so is should be a whole lot of fun and be able to watch kids showing their bucket calves out in the show ring a little before the fair and we’ll be excited have everyone come down and check it out.”

Cordray says the cattlemen are looking forward to provide this additional opportunity for the area kids to show their projects. It takes a lot of “time and energy” it takes to raise a bucket calf in order to make sure they are “ready to go” for a showing contests.

“The fair comes and goes so quick we thought it’d be fun to give those young kids an extra chance to do something fun with their animals.”

The Humboldt County Cattlemen’s Community Grill Out will begin at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, June 22. The grills will be lit right away and the guest speakers will begin 6 pm and the bucket calf show will start at 6:45 pm.
