Humboldt softball falls to St. Edmond in high scoring game

Fort Dodge, IA – On Monday, June 15, Humboldt softball lost to St. Edmond 20-19 at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.

To start the high scoring affair the Humboldt Wildcats got four runs in the top of the first inning. St. Edmond was able to get one back in the bottom of the first and two back in the bottom of the second to make it 4-3 early.

In the top of the third Humboldt would score one and St. Edmond would tie the game with two in the bottom. The game would remained tied after four with both teams scoring two, the scoring now 5-5.

After a scoreless top of the fifth, St. Edmond was able to get their first led of the game at 6-5 by scoring one in the bottom of the inning. Humboldt would regain the lead by scoring three in the top of the sixth but St. Edmond tied it back up with three more.

Going into the seventh inning the teams were tied at 10 runs each. Humboldt put up nine in the top half of the frame, most of them coming with two outs.

St. Edmond got the necessary one run better to walk it off 20-19 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Humboldt’s pitcher was Kendal Clark, making her first start in place of regular pitcher Reagan Lee, who has been out the past five games. Clark pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up 13 hits, 13 walks, 10 earned runs and four hit batters. She struck out two opponent batters.

Addie Thompson led Humboldt by going 3-4 in her at bats with three RBIs. Elsie Hubbell was 3-5 at the plate with six RBIs.

Humboldt’s record is now 8-6 this season and 3-3 in the North Central Conference. They have lost five straight.

The next game for the Wildcats will be on Wednesday, June 16, at home against Webster City (11-5, 6-0 NCC). First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following a JV game.
