Humboldt baseball makes it eight straight with win over St. Edmond

Fort Dodge, IA – On Monday, June 14, Humboldt baseball topped St. Edmond on the road at the Rogers Sports Complex.

Humboldt got the scoring started early in the top of the first inning. Caden Matson drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on a throwing error.

The score remained 1-0 until the third inning. Humboldt scored eight of their runs in the top of the third. Highlight from the big inning include a bases clearing (three RBI) double by Joshua Thurm and a two RBI single by Christian Lee.

Humboldt got their final run in the top of the sixth inning, trying to force the run rule (10 plus run advantage after five). St. Edmond forced a seventh inning by scoring a pair in the bottom of the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh to give the final score of 10-2.

The winning pitcher was Humboldt’s Cade Witzke. He pitched all seven innings, gave up four hits and no earned runs. He struck out nine batters.

St. Edmond’s starting pitcher was Peyton Scott. He went four and two-thirds innings, gave up eight earned runs, six hits and five walks. He struck out ten batters.

Humboldt was led by Colby Clarken who went 3-4 in his at bats with an RBI. Thurm was 1-3 in his plate appearances with the three RBIs and was also hit by a pitch.

St. Edmond was led by Hayden Derrig who went 2-3 at the plate.

Humboldt’s record is now 12-1 this season and 5-0 in the North Central Conference. They have won eight games in a row. Cade Witzke was named the Player of the Game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.

The next game for Humboldt will be at home against Webster City (11-1, 5-0 NCC) on Wednesday, June 16. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following a JV game.
