Steady scoring moves Humboldt baseball past Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

Clarion, IA – On Monday, June 21, Humboldt baseball beat Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on the road 12-0 in five innings.

Humboldt scored runs in all five innings. They started the game with two in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats added one more in both the second and third innings to take the 4-0 lead after three.

In the top of the fourth inning, Humboldt doubled their score by adding four runs. They secured the run rule win (10 or more run advantage after five) in the top of the fifth by adding four more runs.

Humboldt’s Cade Witzke pitched the complete game, five innings on 60 pitches.  He gave up just two hits all game long. He struck out eight batters.

Witzke was 2-3 in his at bats with an RBI and a walk. Colby Clarken was 1-3 at the plate with the team leading three RBIs.

The win improves Humboldt’s record to 13-3 this season and 6-1 in the North Central Conference.

The next game for the Wildcats is Tuesday, June 22, on the road against Estherville-Lincoln Central. First pitch is set for 7:15 pm, following a JV game.
