IFA scores 10 unanswered to best Humboldt softball

Iowa Falls, IA – On Wednesday, June 30, Humboldt softball lost to Iowa Falls-Alden 11-7 on the road.

The game started on a scoreless first inning. Iowa Falls’s starting pitcher Elise Osman struck out the side in the top of the first inning. Humboldt used a double play between first base Reagan Lee and third base Kendal Clark to eliminate a lead off runner in the bottom of the first.

Humboldt started the scoring in the top of the second inning by scoring three runs. They recorded four base hits in the inning. Iowa Falls got one back in the top in the bottom on three hits.

Humboldt extended the lead to 6-1 by adding three more in the top of the third. Iowa Falls-Alden matched the run total in the bottom of the inning to make the score 6-4 after three.

Iowa Falls tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. They scored two runs on a double by Marlee Lancaster.

IFA took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning at 7-6. They built it to 11-6 with four more in the sixth.

Humboldt got one run back in the top of the seventh inning. Addie Thompson scored on a single by Elsie Hubbel. Runners got left at the corners for Humboldt to end the game.

Brianna Lange started as the pitcher for Humboldt. She went five and two-thirds innings, giving up nine earned runs, nine hits, nine walks and two hit batters. She struck out one.

Clark came into the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to get the last two outs.

Iowa Falls-Alden’s start Osman pitched the first three innings and the seventh inning. She gave up six hits, five earned runs and two walks. She struck out seven in the win.

Cidni Phipps pitched the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for IFA. She gave up four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Lee led Humboldt, going 3-3 in her at bats with an RBI. Macy Varangkounh was 2-2 at the plate with and RBI and a walk.

Humboldt’s record is 12-11 this season and 5-7 in the North Central Conferece. Macey Varangkounh was named the Player of the Game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.

Humboldt’s next game will be Friday, July 2, on the road against Webster City. It is the regular season finally with first pitch scheduled for 7:30 pm.
