Iowa’s unemployment rises slightly in July

Des Moines, IA – Iowa Workforce Development released a statement on Friday detailing Iowa’s unemployment rate. The press release said that Iowa’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 4.1 percent in July 2021 from 4 percent in June. The states jobless rate was 6.1 percent a year ago. The total number of working Iowan’s increased to 1,593,600 in July, which is 55,400 higher than July 2020 and 5,700 , more than June 2021.

Beth Townsend, Director of Iowa Workforce Development said that from May to July, there was an increase of 175 percent in the number of people visiting Iowa WORKS job centers to take active steps in finding work and that trend has continued into August.
