Wildcats girls basketball opens season with Gilbert

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats girls basketball opens up the season tonight as the Wildcats host the Gilbert Tigers inside the Humboldt High School Gym at 7:30. The Wildcats were 18-5 last season but lose 5 starters, including Kendall Clark and Jori Hajek. Seniors Alexis Hansen, Rylie Satern and Marissa Kaufman will be senior leaders for the Wildcats this season, with Hansen being the top returning scorer at 4 points per game last season and starting in 3 games.

Humboldt faces a stiff challenge to start the season tonight, as they face a Gilbert team that 15-7 last year and returns All-State point guard and Drake University commit Ava Hawthorne. Humboldt Head Coach Rodd Mooney explains the Wildcat’s key’s tonight, and containing Hawthorne is one of them.
