Humboldt seeks State Tourney bid with Substate Final tonight

HUMBOLDT, IA – The Humboldt Wildcat’s boys basketball team continues its postseason journey tonight as the Wildcats travel to Storm Lake to face the Spencer Tigers in the Class 3A Substate 1 Final. Humboldt and Spencer have identical 20-3 records, with the Tigers having won 10 straight contests. For Humboldt, they are playing in the Substate Final for the 2nd year in a row, and are hoping to use their big game experience to their advantage tonight.

The leading scorers for Spencer are Karter Petzenhauser at 19.8 PPG, Owen Olson at 11.6 and Evan Schmidt at 11.2. For Humboldt Will Orness leads the way at 13.5 ppg, Caden Matson is right behind at 12.6 and Josh Thurm is at 9.6 Humboldt got to the Substate Final by knocking off Sioux Center 81-67 and LeMars 57-54. 

Spencer Dominated Algona 78-45 and the took down Storm Lake 60-44 to reach the Substate Final. Tonight’s Substate Final between Humboldt and Spencer at Storm Lake High School will be broadcasted live on KHBT Classic Hits 97.7 The Bolt and 977thebolt.com.
