Two-vehicle accident south of Algona on US 169 Wednesday night

Algona, IA – Two vehicles collided nearly head-on while traveling on US 169 south of Algona late Wednesday night. The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office posted the following press release on the accident.

“On July 13, 2022 at 11:12 p.m., the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a head on collision on Hwy 169 about 2 ½ miles south of Algona. Algona Fire and EMS along with Kossuth County Deputies responded to the scene. Auto Launch was activated, which dispatches an AirMed helicopter to be on standby.

A 2013 Chevy Cruze, driven by Jennifer Bell of Humboldt, was southbound on Hwy 169. A 2010 Cadillac Escalade was northbound on Hwy 169, driven by John Camden of Ft. Dodge. The two vehicles collided nearly head-on near the centerline and were occupied by the drivers only. Jennifer Bell was transported by Algona EMS to Kossuth Regional Health Center where she was flown by AirMed to Mercy Hospital in Mason City with non-life threatening injuries. John Camden was transported by Algona EMS to Kossuth Regional Health Center where he was treated and released.

The accident is under investigation by the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the lowa State Patrol to determine the cause or fault of the accident. Both drivers were tested for possible impairment. A search warrant for a blood draw on Jennifer Bell was requested since she was transported out of the area and the Mason City Police Department assisted in executing the warrant.

Assisting the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Algona Fire Department and Algona EMS, the Algona Police Department, and the lowa State Patrol. Air Med out of Mercy in Mason City and the Mason City Police Department also assisted in the accident.”
