Winter Weather Advisory in effect on Tuesday

Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines has placed portions of Northern, Western, and Central Iowa under a Winter Weather Advisory in effect on Tuesday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST.

Mixed precipitation is expected with total snow accumulations of up to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze with winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Plan on slippery road conditions, with the hazardous conditions possibly impacting the morning or evening commute. Cold and windy conditions will result in blowing snow during the day northwest and north with bitter wind chills will arrive by the early Wednesday morning commute.

The NWS says to slow down and use caution while traveling. Most vehicle crashes occur in lighter amounts of snow and ice. Plan on extra time to reach your destination safely Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
