NWS says two systems to affect state this week

Des Moines, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines released their forecast outlook for the week this morning looking at two systems.

The first in a series of storm systems will bring widespread rain to the state on Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 0.25″ to 0.75″ will be common with a few locations possibly picking up one inch. Due to the combination of snowmelt and rainfall, localized water issues or minor flooding is possible, especially across the northern portion of the state where a deeper snowpack remains.

The second system is a possible winter storm across portions of the Midwest on Wednesday night and Thursday. There remains considerable variability in the track and strength of the system. At this time, a moderate threat (20-40%) exists for at least minor winter travel impacts across much of southern and central Iowa.
