Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors convened for their weekly session at 8:30 Monday morning at the Humboldt County Courthouse in Dakota City.
The Board approved work in the County Right of Way for Mid-American Energy on Gotch Park Road. Humboldt County Engineer Ben Loots says the work will be involve a relocation of a 4100 foot 4 inch plastic gas main on the east side of Gotch Park Road south of the bridge down to the intersection.
The big headline news of the morning came with the second item on the agenda, with discussion and possible action on the sale of the Reasoner Dam. Todd Lee of Humboldt County Conservation said that the Humboldt County Conservation Board had come up with motion on the table for discussion. The motion stated that the board was looking to offer the Reasoner Dam for sale to the public, with the date, time, and method of sale to be determined by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors.
The proposed buyer would have had the option to either totally remove the dam or to complete all recommended repairs as outlined on page 17 of the Axiom report presented at the April 19th regular Conservation Board meeting.
The buyer will have 36 months from the date of sale to complete whichever option is chosen. If at the end of the 36 months, the removal or repairs are not complete, ownership of the dam will revert to the Humboldt County Conservation Board.
The buyer will be required to maintain liability coverage on the structure. In addition, the Humboldt County Conservation Board reserves the right to include additional language in the final purchase agreement as deemed necessary by legal council.
After a discussion between parties in the room, it was decided that the Board of Supervisors would not proceed with the proposed motion, with more debate to continue on the contentious issue.
Other items completed during the session included the Board having accepted a low bid for tree removal and dirt work at the The Humboldt County Courthouse in Dakota City. The Board accepted a bid from Kvale Tree Service at the amount of $3,765.50 for the removal of six trees from the front lawn of the courthouse, with work to be done to afterwards to fix the landscape.
