Humboldt, IA – The Cy-Hawk Rivalry on Sumner Ave. in downtown Humboldt returns Thursday, Sept. 7.
The 2023 edition marks the third year the Humboldt Athletic Booster Club has been organizing the event and will be the second time in three years that WHO’s SoundOff RVTV will make a stop through Humboldt.
Activities during the event kick off at 4 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. They include a kids zone with free fun and games from 4-7 p.m. in the Parley Finch Plaza Park and along Sumner Ave. sponsored by local businesses. A corn hole tournament near U.S. Bank will have sign up at 4:30 p.m. and the tournament starting at 5 p.m. and a live auction to raise money for the boosters will take place at 6:30.
Cassie Harklau with the Humboldt Athletic Booster Club says planning by the boosters has taken months.
Harklau says preparation is factored in with RVTV appearing at the CY-Hawk celebration and that the organizing committee has set the traveling crew up for their stay in Humboldt. This year is the second time in three years that the SoundOff crew is making an appearance in Humboldt.
With the event being held in a fundraising capacity for the Humboldt Athletic Booster Club, Harklau says there will be ways to help out monetarily.
Iowa State Wrestling’s team lead by head coach and Humboldt native Kevin Dresser will hold a live wrestling demonstration at 7:00 p.m. on Sumner Ave. The Humboldt Athletic Booster Club says there will also be vendors on site.
At Humboldt High School, principal Travis Sprague says the school will kick-off festivities for the event this afternoon.
In addition to RVTV, KHBT – 97.7 FM The Bolt‘s Matt Scher and Craig Russell will be out at the rivalry event from 4-7 p.m. broadcasting live.
