Algona defeats Humboldt girls’ basketball 64-54

Algona, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats girls’ basketball team fell to the Algona Bulldogs after a big third quarter for Algona outscoring Humboldt 26-5 to defeat the Cats 64-54 Tuesday night at the Algona High School Gymnasium.

The Wildcats held a 34-28 lead at the half over the Algona Bulldogs before a 15-0 run by Algona would evaporate the deficit to begin the third quarter. Algona would not look back, winning the matchup by 10.

For Algona, Lauren McLaughlin led all scorers with 27 points and BellaJo Dunning recorded 15. Morgan Mann led Humboldt with 26 points.

With the loss, Humboldt falls to 4-2 (2-1 NCC) and Algona improves to 4-2 (3-0 NCC). Humboldt is next on the court on Thursday when they travel to Fort Dodge to face the Dodgers in a boys’ and girls’ basketball doubleheader in non-conference play. Pregame coverage Thursday will start at 6:00 p.m. on KHBT from Fort Dodge with the girls’ game tip-off slated for 6:15 p.m.
