Humboldt boys’ basketball uses big third quarter to defeat Algona

Algona, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats boys’ basketball team used a 30-point third quarter to defeat the Algona Bulldogs 77-60 Tuesday night in the Algona High School Gymnasium.

After Humboldt took a 29-26 lead at the half, the Wildcats outscored Algona 30-16 in the third quarter of play to propel themselves to a road win against their rivals with a 17-point victory.

Leading the way for Humboldt was Elliot Carlson with his second consecutive 20-point performance, scoring 25 points and Evan Hatcher recorded 22. The Bulldogs were led by Ben Helmers with 23 points and Landon Welp added 19.

With the win, Humboldt improves to 3-1 (2-0 NCC) and Algona falls to 2-2 (0-1 NCC). Humboldt is next on the court Thursday night in non-conference play when they head to Fort Dodge to face the Dodgers. Tip-off is slated for approximately 7:45 p.m. following the girls’ game. KHBT will carry the game live over the air.
