Humboldt boys’ basketball falls to Spirit Lake, 1-1 going into home opener

Spirit Lake, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats boy’s basketball team fell 73-68 Monday night at Spirit Lake in non-conference play.

The Indians took a 21-19 lead at the end of the first quarter before racing out to a 10-point lead halfway through the second quarter. Humboldt would close the gap trailing 37-35 at the end of the first half. The second half saw Spirit Lake and Humboldt tied a few times with the Indians ultimately hanging on for the victory after leading by as much as 11 in the second half.

Scoring leaders were Evan Hatcher for Humboldt with 35 points and Dylan Stecker for Spirit Lake with 27.

With the loss, Humboldt falls to 1-1 and next takes the court on Friday for their home opener in North Central Conference play on Friday as part of a doubleheader with the girls’ team against St. Edmond in Humboldt. The girls’ game will tip-off at 6:15 p.m., followed by the boys’ game. Coverage on KHBT will start at 6:00 p.m.
