Fort Dodge man injured after gun discharges Wednesday

Fort Dodge, IA – A man is in the hospital after a gun was discharged at an apartment in Fort Dodge.

According to a press release by the Fort Dodge Police Department, on Wednesday at approximately 3:37 p.m., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received the call of a gunshot resulting in the injury of a male at an apartment located at 106 North 10th St., Apt. 308. Information gathered from the call indicated that a firearm had been accidentally discharged, leaving one male in the residence with injuries to the upper torso area.

Officers arrived on scene and rendered aid to the male in need of medical attention before allowing Fort Dodge Fire to take over aid of the injured male and transported him to Unity Point via ambulance for further treatment. The release states that the condition of the injured male is not known at this time and his name is not being released until authorities notify family. The incident is still under investigation and law enforcement state that there is no current information available to suggest that the gunshot was more than an unfortunate accidental discharge.

The Fort Dodge Police Department was also assisted by Deputies responding from the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
