Perry, IA – Humboldt boys’ soccer saw their 2024 season come to a close one win short of a third State Tournament appearance in a 4-1 loss to Perry at Dewey Field.

The Bluejays would score two goals in the first 10 minutes by Sergio Sanchez and Jacobo Cerna-Gomez as the match went to halftime with Perry leading 2-0. With 35 minutes remaining, Perry’s Jonatan Bañuelos found the back of the net to give the Bluejays a 3-0 lead. Humboldt’s Cristhian Ramirez would score on a PK with 32 minutes remaining to cut the deficit to two goals, but the lead would go back to three after Cerna-Gomez scored his second goal of the match with 28 minutes left.

With the loss, Humboldt ends their 2024 season at 13-2 (11-1 NCC) and as co-NCC Champions. Perry improves to 11-5 and advances for the second straight season to the 2A State Tournament next week in Des Moines.
