Humboldt baseball and softball sweep CGD with big offensive nights

Clarion, IA – Humboldt’s baseball and softball teams swept Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Wednesday night in Clarion.

Humboldt softball defeated Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 19-1 in six innings. The Wildcats would score six runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third before exploding for a nine-run sixth inning that saw Elsie Hubbell come to the plate with the bases loaded.

The Cowgirls managed just one run in the second. In the circle, Hubbell pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing two hits and an unearned run, walking one and striking out five.

In addition to the grand slam for Hubbell, Regan Lee was 4-5 with three doubles and four runs scored, Gracie Lyon had a 3-4 night with a triple and three runs scored and Sadie Hubbell was 2-4 with a triple. The win ended a three game skid for Humboldt and was the 26th consecutive win for the Wildcats against the Cowgirls dating back to 2009.

That’s Humboldt Head Coach Erica Post, who says her team is ready for their upcoming matchups against Belmond-Klemme today and conference foe St. Edmond Friday.

The Wildcats improve to 3-4 (2-3 NCC play). First pitch tonight in Belmond is at 6:00 p.m.

The Humboldt baseball team was victorious 17-5 in five innings against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Wednesday night. Humboldt Head Baseball Coach Jason Thurm on the victory.

The Wildcats are 8-2 (4-1 NCC) and host Forest City today.

First pitch tonight in Humboldt is slated for 7:30 p.m.
