Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt County board of adjustment passed a special exception use permit 3 votes to one for land to be zoned for a housing development near Joe Sheldon Park.
In a meeting Monday night at the Humboldt County Engineer’s office, Beartooth Land Company LLC proposed a 64.63 acre parcel of land be switched from agricultural to residential for development near Joe Sheldon Park at the NW corner of the intersection of 220th St. and Sheldon Park Road.
The permit was passed with the conditions pending next Tuesday’s official purchase of the site with proof provided to the Humboldt County Engineer’s Office and the land having a minimum of two acre lots in the development. Nearby landowner Gary Erickson was initially skeptical of the project, but in talking with the group, pulled back reservations after learning that part of the area requested to be zoned as residential would still have agricultural uses nearest to his property.
The votes in favor of the permit were board members Julie Day, Louis Falleson, and Melvin Murphy. The dissenting vote was by board member Nick Torkelson, who cited not liking the idea of residential housing in close proximity to Sheldon Park.
