Three advance to quarterfinals, one in consolation for Humboldt after day one at State Tournament

Des Moines, IA – Day one of the Class 2A session of the 2025 IHSAA Boys State Wrestling Tournament wrapped up Wednesday night from Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

No. 11 at 132 pounds Cyler Cirks (Humboldt) advanced to quarterfinals with a win in the first round by tech fall over No. 22 Jon Rasmussen (Audubon) 2:53 into the match leading 19-0 and recorded a win in the second round by a 10-3 decision over No. 6 Charlie Showalter (Hampton-Dumont/CAL), a wrestler who Cirks was 0-3 against this year.

Cirks advances to quarterfinal round vs. No. 3 Mason Avila (Decorah) Thursday night.

After a bye in the first round, No. 4 at 138 pounds Tyce Clarken (Humboldt) won in the second round by fall over No. 13 Ben Kusar (Perry) 4:26 into the match to advance to the quarterfinals.

Clarken will face No. 5 Cadyn Wild (Assumption Davenport) Thursday night.

No. 18 Max Dalton (Woodward-Granger) won in tie breaker – 1 over No. 15 Landon Halverson (Humboldt) 4-3 in first round at 175.

Halverson will next face No. 16 Austin Boege (Nevada) in the consolation second round Thursday night.

After receiving a first-round bye, No. 4 at 190 Broedy Hendricks (Humboldt) won in the second round by fall over No. 13 Caysen Curran (Mount Vernon) 1:22 into the match.

Hendricks will face No. 5 Thomas Sexton (Decorah) in quarterfinal round Thursday night.
