KHBT – Snow emergencies are in place for several communities ahead of Wednesday’s blizzard.

The City of Humboldt has declared a snow emergency beginning Wednesday, March 19 starting at 7 a.m. and ending on March 20 at 7 a.m. Parking on all streets except for Sumner Ave. between 8th Street and 4th Street is prohibited beginning at 7 a.m. On-street parking will be prohibited until the snow emergency is lifted at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 20.

The City of Algona has issued a snow emergency that will be in effect from Wednesday, March 19 at 7 a.m. until Friday, March 21 at noon. The city’s snow ordinance for vehicles in city parking lots will be in effect. Vehicles shall park on the designated side “A” from Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 20 and on side “B” from Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday, March 21.

Parking ordinances will be in effect and enforced by the Algona Police Department for the duration of the snow ordinance. No vehicles shall be parked on residential streets and in the downtown area no vehicles shall be parked on downtown streets between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. All vehicles parked illegally will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Due to the predicted weather and poor travel conditions, City Hall and the City Taxi will be closed on Wednesday, March 19.

When a snow emergency is in effect, please be mindful of the City’s snow ordinance:
• No parking on the streets, except for physicians on an emergency call or emergency vehicles. This will be enforced from the time and date when the snow emergency goes into effect until the time and date when it is terminated.
• Vehicles that park in unauthorized areas during the snow emergency may be fined, or possibly towed, as directed by the Chief of Police. Fines are payable at Algona City Hall. The owner of the towed vehicle is responsible for towing-related costs and fines.
• Do not push or blow snow onto or across public streets or alleys.
• Snow from sidewalks is to be removed within 24 hours after snow stops falling.
• Vehicles in city parking lots must park on the designated side “A” and alternate to side “B,” as instructed in the snow emergency, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for the duration of the snow emergency.
