Forest City, IA – The Humboldt softball team won a 9-8 thriller on the road in non-conference play Thursday night over Forest City.
The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI singles by Elsie Hubbell and Abby Armitage. Forest City countered with a four-run bottom of the first to take the lead.
In the third, Elsie Hubbell would help the Wildcats retake the lead with the bases loaded.
The Wildcats led the Indians 6-4 on the three-RBI double for Hubbell. Forest City would cut the deficit to one with a run in the fourth and after Humboldt added an insurance run to lead 7-5, Forest City would retake the lead on a three RBI triple by Dru Seglem to lead Humboldt 8-7 going into the seventh. With Humboldt down to their last out in the seventh with two on, Landry Lash got a 1-1 pitch to hit.
Forest City would fail to score a run in the bottom of the seventh, giving Humboldt the one run victory. Humboldt head softball coach Erica Post on the win.
In the circle, Adalee Nolting pitched a complete game of seven innings, allowing eight runs (one earned) on eight hits. Offensively, Elsie Hubbell led Humboldt with a 3-4 night that included a double, a run scored, and five RBIs. Claire Dieleman was 3-4 with two runs scored, Gracie Lyon was 2-5 with two runs scored, Abby Armitage had two RBIs, Sadie Hubbell was 2-4 with a run scored, Hayden Graaf was 2-4 with a run scored, and Landry Lash was 2-3 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
Humboldt improves to 7-5 (4-4 NCC) and heads to Roland-Story on Friday and Saturday for a tournament.
