Sioux City, IA – A Bode man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison in a drug and gun case.

37-year-old Lawrence Moore of Bode received the eight-year federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Moore was barred from owning firearms or ammunition due to prior convictions for armed robbery and aggravated battery in Cook County, IL . The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says evidence at the hearings showed Moore negotiated firearm sales and purchases, including with an undercover agent.

In November 2024, authorities searched Moore’s home, finding a loaded Smith & Wesson pistol hidden in his mattress. Other items seized included marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

U.S. District Court Judge Leonard Strand sentenced Moore to 96 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.  Moore remains in custody of the United States Marshal until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which aims to reduce violent crime and enhance community safety. The investigation included the assistance of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the ATF, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
