Fort Dodge, IA – Fort Dodge fire crews responded to a structure fire early Sunday morning with power lines involved.

In a press release, the Fort Dodge Fire Department says they received the call at 7:43 a.m. on Sunday of a report of a structure fire near the Corpus Christi Church, located at 402 N 8th St. There were no injuries.

Once on scene, crews observed heavy smoke and determined the fire was located in a one-story building behind and within the former priest’s quarters. Firefighters immediately initiated fire attack, search, and forcible entry. The fire was well involved in the attic and the west side of the structure, requiring multiple handlines to bring it under control. The fire also caused damage to nearby power lines, and MidAmerican Energy responded to remove a tree that had caught fire during the incident.

A second alarm was called, bringing seven off-duty firefighters back to staff the station and bring Engine 11 to the scene. A total of 21 Fort Dodge Fire Department personnel were on-site for about three hours. According to the release, the building is currently owned by Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Parish of Webster County.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department says the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The Fort Dodge Fire Department was assisted by the Fort Dodge Police Department and MidAmerican Energy.
