Humboldt County, IA – A Hardy woman has died as a result of her injuries in a Monday morning crash on Highway 3 in Humboldt County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, at 7:44 a.m. a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 60-year-old Deborah Lei Ruberg of Hardy was traveling westbound on Highway 3 when Ruberg lost control on the snow and ice-covered road, went into the eastbound lane, and was struck by an eastbound 2016 Freightliner semi-truck driven by 37-year-old Austin Lee Van Klompe of Maurice. The crash occured near the intersection of Highway 3 and States Avenue.
Ruberg was ejected from her vehicle, transported to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital, and died as a result of her injuries. Van Klompe was not injured.
Assisting on scene were the Iowa State Patrol, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt Police Department, Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department, Humboldt EMS, and Jergen’s Wrecker Service.
