Humboldt volleyball falls in Class 3A State Championship to Davenport Assumption in three sets

Coralville, IA – No. 5 Humboldt saw their season come to a close in the Class 3A State Championship, falling in three sets to No. 2 Assumption Davenport at the 2025 Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) State Volleyball Tournament from Xtream Arena in Coralville.

In the first meeting of the Bound era (since 2008), the Wildcats suffered setbacks to the Knights of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-22.

Humboldt was led by Adelynn Goodell who recorded 11 kills and Mia Schluter had eight on the afternoon. Sophomore Addie Waldorf had 29 assists in the effort.

Davenport Assumption got production out of their senior Ellah Derrer, who led all players with 16 kills in the match. The top producer as named by the IGHSAU was senior Carsyn Kelley, who recorded 36 assists in the win.

Humboldt wrapped up the season at 33-7 (7-0 NCC) as North Central Conference champions, earning a berth to their second state tournament appearance in program history, won a match at the state tournament for the first time, and advanced to the 3A State Championship match for the first time ever.

Davenport Assumption ended their season as 2025 3A State Champions with a record of 28-7.
