Coralville, IA – For the first time in program history, the No. 5 Humboldt Wildcats volleyball team won a match at the state tournament as they swept No. 4 Cherokee Washington in three sets 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 to advance to the semifinal round in Class 3A at the 2025 Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) State Volleyball Tournament at Xtreme Arena in Coralville.
Humboldt was led by Addelyn Goodell, who recorded 14 kills ton pace team.
Mia Schluter and Kendall Works each had 12 kills. Addie Waldorf recorded the final kill for Humboldt to win the third set and advance to their first semifinal match in school history.
Schluter says that the team was not phased in their first state tournament appearance since 2020.
Kendall Works says the team was able to rally in the third set, focusing on team volleyball and playing for a well-traveled Humboldt crowd in the arena after trailing the Braves.
Humboldt Head Volleyball Coach Kara Waldorf discussed the emotions after the first win in program history at the state tournament.
No. 5 Humboldt at 32-6 faces No. 1 Western Christian at 38-9 in the 3A Semifinal Wednesday, a rematch of last year’s regional final that saw the Wolfpack win in three sets.
First Serve is at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5.
