(NWS) – The National Weather Service says our area will be under both a Winter Weather Advisory and a High Wind Warning starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday and lasting into Wednesday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for portions of central and northern Iowa from 9 p.m. CST Tuesday to 6 a.m. CST Wednesday and a High Wind Warning will also be in effect from 9 p.m. CST Tuesday through 9 a.m. CST Wednesday for portions of western, central, and northern Iowa.

Scattered snow showers are possible with minor accumulations. Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. Blowing snow will result in hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility at times.

Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Reduced visibility is expected and near-blizzard conditions are possible and may make travel treacherous, particularly in rural and open areas. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling.
