Algona holds off Humboldt 61-54 in Substate First Round, Humboldt boys’ basketball 13-10

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats boys’ basketball team’s season came to an end in a 61-54 loss to the Algona Bulldogs Monday night in the Class 3A Substate 8 First Round.

Algona won the rubber match in the programs’ third meeting in 20 days after taking the lead for good halfway through the second quarter. Nathan Manske led the Bulldogs with 25 points, Jacob Burns had 16 points, and Landon Campe recorded 10. Humboldt was led by Valley Davis with 16 points and Cade Birdsell with 12.

Humboldt Head Boys’ Basketball Coach Ryan O’Hern spoke after the season-ending loss.

O’Hern says the team made big strides throughout the season.

Algona improves to 16-7 and will head to No. 3 (3A) Storm Lake Thursday for the 3A-8 Semifinal. Humboldt ends their season at 13-10.
