NWS – A Flood Watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through late Thursday night for much of central Iowa, including the Humboldt area.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines says a prolonged period of showers and thunderstorms is expected Tuesday night through Thursday evening.

Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are forecast across a southwest-to-northeast band of central Iowa, with locally higher amounts possible.

The rainfall will fall on already saturated ground, increasing the potential for flooding. The National Weather Service says flash flooding could occur, while poor drainage and low-lying areas could experience ponding. Additional rainfall is also expected to cause rises on area rivers, with some locations potentially exceeding flood stage.

Residents should monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions through Thursday night.
