Des Moines, Iowa — Iowa residents that require a service animal will no longer have to pay additional pet fees when renting a home.
Governor Kim Reynolds (R-IA) approved a new state law this weekend; the law forbids landlords from charging extra fees to a renter who has a service animal or a service-animal-in-training.
In addition to that, the Iowa governor also signed a bill that makes it illegal to falsely claim a pet as a service animal.
People can be charged with a misdemeanor if they are in a public place such as a grocery store or restaurant and are unable to prove their pet is a service animal.
