Humboldt, IA – Previously cancelled, the 4th of July is now being planned by the community for the community.
The City of Humboldt will have a 4th of July parade in 2020. After it was previously announced by the Humboldt County Development Association that they decided not hold the parade this year due to COVID-19 social distancing concerns, a group of Humboldt citizens joined together to form a committee. This committee reached out to the city to work out a plan so the parade could still happen.
One of the committee members, Brandy Satern, tells KHBT there are some details to be finalized but they will continue to work to assure the parade can happen. As a result of trying to avoid downtown construction, the normal route will not be used this year and three alternatives are being considered. The city council for the City of Humboldt is expected to approve a route including street closures during the scheduled meeting on Monday, June 15.
The committee consists of eight local community members including Satern and her husband. She confirms that there have been talks with those who coordinate Shag the Drag to get their involvement. Vehicles of all kinds are welcome to participate in the parade. There will also be a rain date if weather is not suitable the day of the parade.
The Humboldt 4th of July parade is in the works. For those wishing to register as a participant in the parade or get involved in the planning should email the committee at humboldtiowaparade@gmail.com.
