ISU Extension and Outreach offering virtual Animal Cy-ience Academy

Ames, IA – High School students can receive a remote education in animal science from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be hosting an online education event for high school students that will showcase many career opportunities in animal science. Announced via a press release, the inaugural virtual Iowa State Animal Cy-ience Academy will take place July 1.

Starting at 9 am and running until 1 pm participants can choose from 14 different workshops. The classes will be taught by some of the top scientists and veterinarians in the country. This program will join students from all over the country as they learn about a variety of animals, topic and participate in virtual cooking school. The event will open up with a keynote and welcome from chair of the Department of Animal Sciences at ISU, Dan Thomson. The event will conclude with a virtual cooking competition between members of the animal science.

Extension Program Specialist for the Youth Animal Science Program at ISU Extension and Outreach, Amy Power, says the goal is to “expose youth to the variety of interests within the field of animal science.” She says the hope to inform youth that there is more to animal science than farmer and veterinarians.

Participants will receive a list of needed ingredients prior to the event so they can cook along at home while watching the live demonstrations. Pre-registration is required and is available at aep.iastate.edu/ancy.
