Four cities renew law enforcement agreement with Humboldt County

Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors renew an agreement with four cities in the county to provide law enforcement and emergency services.

During the most recent meeting of the supervisors the County Auditor Peggy Rice reported that four area cities had returned their 28E agreements for law enforcement and emergency service agreement. The four cities are Lu Verne, Hardy, Ottosen and Renwick.

Each agreement is aligned within the same parameters. The purpose of the 28E agreements is to provide law enforcement and emergency services with in the corporate city limits. The services will be conducted by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. This includes all requested police services, non-emergency and 9-1-1 will come through the Humboldt Dispatch Center.

By entering this agreement each city agrees to compensate the county for the service. The agreement states that each city will provide a payment of $12 per capita based on the 2010 census. The payment will also increase five percent each year of the agreement. The current signed 28E will expire June 30, 2022 and be evaluated by the county and cities prior to a renewal.

These 28E agreements are the renewal of similar agreements that the cities and county have had in the past. The supervisors approved the agreements with all four cities unanimously.
