Humboldt’s police chief interview process

Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is planning to have a two day interview process for the finalists to fill the police chief position.

City Administrator Travis Goedken tells KHBT that the city is drawing closer to hiring their next police chief. There are currently three finalists left after the city received more than 20 applications.

The three finalists will be coming to town on Friday for the process. They will go through their physical testing along with the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) test. The city will then host a public reception when the general public can come in an meet with the finalists at City Hall.

On Saturday the city will conduct interview with the candidates. Goedken says that three panels were formed to conduct three interviews. The first panel consists of the city administrator along with council members and Mayor Dan Scholl. The second panel consists of law enforcement personnel including Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger and Algona’s Chief of Police Kendall Pals along with a state trooper and police officer. The third panel will be the city department heads.

Goedken says if there is a clear standout on Saturday the city will extend an offer to the party. If there is not, they will go back to their pool of applicants.
