Lopsided second half causes Humboldt girls basketball to fall to Clear Lake

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School girls basketball lets a close game slip away in the second half at home against Clear Lake Friday night.

On Friday, Dec. 11, the Wildcats girls basketball team hosted the defending North Central Conference Champions and undefeated Clear Lake Lions. Despite it being a close first half the Lions were able to pull away with a comfortable 55-42 win.

In the first quarter Humboldt was able to stay close Thanks to four points from guard Jori Hajek to keep the score 12-11 at the end of one. In the second quarter the teams were dead even with eight points each to keep the score at 20-19 going into the locker room.

The third quarter was when Clear Lake opened it up with 19 points to Humboldt’s eleven to make the score 39-30 going into the final quarter. Throughout the fourth the two teams kept it steady until Humboldt was forced to begin intentionally fouling to try and come back. Clear Lake was able to grab the 55-42 advantage to win the game.

For Humboldt forward Kendal Clark was the only player to break double digit scoring with 19 points. Next highest scorer was guard Bae Arnold with having six.

Clear Lake was led by one player with double digit scoring as well as forward Jaden Ainley scored 23 point. Ten of Ainley’s points came in the fourth quarter. Forward Xada Johnson had eight points for the Lions in their winning efforts.

Following the loss Humboldt is now 2-2 on the season. With this being their first NCC game they are 0-1 in the conference. Next for Humboldt girls basketball will be a road game at Algona. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 pm.
