Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Carnegie Library is giving young readers a chance at a head start on this year’s summer reading challenge.

The public library announced on Monday, May 24, that parents and children can come in to pick up their material for the 2021 Summer Reading Challenge. Head of Children’s Library Julie Larson says they are welcoming all age groups 18 and younger to participate.

The children’s department will have four different age categories in the downstairs area of the library.

  • Babies and toddlers, with their parents reading to them.
  • Preschool and Kindergarten.
  • First and second grades
  • Third through fifth grades.

For the four younger age groups they library’s challenge is for them to complete a “challenge sheet.” Once the sheet is completed they will receive a prize when they return their reading log.

For middle school and high school aged readers their reading challenge is different. They will receive a “bingo” type sheet where they can cross off any challenge they choose to do. For each challenge the teen reader completes their name will be entered in to be one of three winners for a prize.

This year’s teen prizes include either an $100 Amazon gift card or a private screening at the Humota Movie Theater for the reader and a hand full of their friends.

There will be no registration required for the 2021 Summer Reading Challenge at the Humboldt Carnegie Library. Materials are now available for pick up. All books must be checkout from the library in order to qualify.

The summer reading challenge will be going on throughout the entire month of June.
